Projected images of works from the Denver Art Museum’s exclusive exhibition,
Becoming Van Gogh—which focuses on the artist’s years in Paris—provide a
stunning visual backdrop to a multi-media collaboration between the DAM and the
Symphony. Van Gogh’s years in Paris from March 1886 to February 1888 occurred
during a period of both social change and artistic innovation. During these years,
he spent much of his artistic energy responding to both Impressionists and Post
Impressionists and developed his own highly original style. As a fitting segue, the
concert program includes works that recreate the bohemian atmosphere of the
era’s salons, concert halls, and music. You’ll gain new insight into this prolific
period when all of Paris was buzzing about fresh, emerging artistic trends; when
Fauré and Saint-Saëns were at their prime; and when the two composers produced
respectively their Pavane and Third Violin Concerto.
