Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet takes center stage with one of Saint-Saëns’ most
popular and critically-lauded works, the Fifth Piano Concerto. Nicknamed
the “Egyptian Symphony” for its exotic flourishes, it remains one of the
repertoire’s most notable showcases for keyboard pyrotechnics and pure
excitement. Two masterworks by the great Italian composer Respighi
flawlessly round-out this idyllic program. A monumental salute to brass and
woodwinds, Respighi’s Pines of Rome abounds with brilliant coloration and
exotic flair. British conductor Justin Brown makes his Colorado Symphony debut.
