PUCCINI La Bohème

Andrew Litton conducts the Symphony in a staging of a beloved Puccini opera, La Bohème, 120 years after its premiere in Turin, Italy. The heartbreaking story of impassioned, young bohemians in a reimagined contemporary Paris – also adapted into the Broadway smash, Rent. La Bohème tells the timeless tale of love found and lost between Rodolfo and Mimi as they enjoy their youth in the lively Latin Quarter. The Colorado Symphony Chorus and the Colorado Children’s Chorale add another layer to the complexity of this classic story. This concert event follows Andrew Litton’s and the Orchestra’s smashing production of Tosca which was presented during the 2014/15 season.

Musician picks!
Why some of our very own think you should see this performance!

Jason Shafer - Principal Clarinet
"Puccini's operas are an incredible experience, both for the audience and for the performers! This will be my first time doing this opera, and with the amazing cast and production quality, this is sure to be a passionate and unforgettable weekend."

Brook Ferguson - Principal Flute
"Puccini’s La Bohème is one of my personal favorites. Every character in the opera is so three dimensional and real. The music is unbelievably beautiful and expressive. It’s empathy and drama at its finest."

Courtney Hershey-Bress - Principal Harp
"This is going to be an amazing weekend playing one of Puccini’s great operas with a beautiful harp part. Andrew Litton will have the orchestra sounding its best and we will be joined by our Colorado Symphony Chorus and the Colorado Children’s Chorale. I can’t wait to play all of Puccini’s lush chords and hear the beautiful soloists!"

Leah Kovach – Viola
"Something I miss as a symphony musician is performing the great opera repertoire- a genre that I believe can bring out the deepest emotional expression in composers. It will be a treat to perform one of my favorite operas with orchestra and Andrew Litton!"

Roger Soren - Bassoon
"Puccini's La Bohème is such a wonderful Opera. I always enjoy performing anything by him, but this is probably my number 1 favorite to listen to. Such a beautiful piece."

Michael Thornton – Principal Horn
"Puccini’s operas have always seemed to me like an early form of Broadway musicals (I grew up in NY, so I experienced Broadway well before opera!). La Bohème actually was the basis of the Broadway hit Rent. This very accessible and beautiful opera is a unique chance for us to share a story with our audience in a different way- using voice, action, and music to create vivid imagery about love, death, and art. With Maestro Litton leading the story, it is sure to be a passionate and exciting ride for all."
