Mozart & Stravinsky conducted by deRidder

Andre deRidder, conductor
Nadia Sirota, viola

MOZART Symphony No. 34 in C major, K. 338
NICO MUHLY Viola Concerto
STRAVINSKY Pétrouchka

For these midwinter concerts, Andre de Ridder returns to Denver to show locals why he's considered one of the most creative conductors in the world. The program begins with viola soloist Nadia Sirota taking on American Nico Muhly's Viola Concerto, premiered in 2015 by Ms. Sirota and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Mark Stryker of the Detroit Free Press liked what he heard, writing, "The music is spare, tactile and a little spacey, and seems to briefly open a window on the infinite. . . . By the end, you feel as if you've been on a journey, happy to have been along for the ride."

Musician picks!
Why some of our very own think you should see this performance!

Claude Sim – Associate Concertmaster
"Maestro deRidder is exciting and innovative with his programming and ideas, and has a flair for the unexpected. The Stravinsky and Muhly are both evocative and energetic pieces."

Leah Kovach – Viola
"Obviously, a viola concerto has to be in my top picks! I’m thrilled for the opportunity to hear Nadia Sirota, who has been a powerful proponent of new music for the viola and modern composers in general! In addition, I’ve actually never played Stravinsky’s Petrouchka and always wanted to!"
