Franz Schubert’s first symphony was written when he was 16, and is marked by soaring trumpets and a pronounced maturity. In contrast, Johannes Brahms said he spent 21 years writing his Symphony No. 1, which he finished in 1876 when he was 43. Hear all three masterpieces in this concert weekend dedicated to “the firsts."

Peter Cooper - Principal Oboe
"I always enjoy playing Brahms 1st Symphony and it will be fascinating for the audience to hear the earliest symphonies by Mozart and Schubert and wonder how that much genius can pour out of child."
