Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Olga Kern
*See "More Information"

Olga Kern was born into a family of musicians with direct links to Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff and began studying piano at the age of five! She's performed with your Colorado Symphony on seven occasions and we're absolutely thrilled for another!

On Lutoslawski’s Concerto for Orchestra you’ll hear each section highlighted prominently on its own, plus featured interplay between the sections of the orchestra resound in all their glory.

KILAR Orawa
LUTOSLAWSKI Concerto for Orchestra
TCHAIKOVSKY Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat major, Op. 23

Denver favorite Olga Kern, whose extraordinary talent and star power has captivated critics around the world, returns to Boettcher Concert Hall for an incomparable performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Brett Mitchell leads the Colorado Symphony through works by two Polish composers who could very nearly steal the stage from the Russian great. Lutoslawski’s capricious Concerto for Orchestra illuminates every section of the Symphony, creating an orchestra of soloists. Its big sound and contrasting moods are set off by the driving energy of Kilar’s Orawa, which creates lush layers using strings.

The running time of this performance is approximately 1 hour and 29 minutes. This includes one 20-minute intermission.

Boettcher Concert Hall is located in the Denver Performing Arts Complex at 14th and Curtis Streets in the heart of downtown Denver. It's easy to find and there are two large parking garages to the east and west of Boettcher. There are often multiple performances happening at DPAC at the same time, which leads to traffic congestion and lines to get into the parking garages. Be sure to leave plenty of time to get to DPAC—we don't want you to miss any of the music!
