Mozart’s “Elvira Madigan” Piano Concerto No. 21

Ken-David Masur, conductor
Orion Weiss, piano
Jessica Rivera, soprano
Colorado Symphony Chorus, Duain Wolfe, director

MOZART Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, K. 492
MOZART Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467
FAURE Pavane, Op. 50
POULENC Gloria

Conductor Ken-David Masur opens this evening with Mozart’s sprightly Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, then leads pianist Orion Weiss and the Colorado Symphony in performing Mozart’s tranquil Piano Concerto No. 21, often called “Elvira Madigan” due to the use of its well-known Andante in the film of the same name. The concerto is well-matched with Fauré’s stately and soothing Pavane, while Poulenc’s reverent, spirited Gloria — featuring Jessica Rivera and the Colorado Symphony Chorus — concludes this blissful collection of symphonic music.

Mozart’s “Elvira Madigan” Piano Concerto No. 21

Description

Mozart's gentle Piano Concerto No.21 may lead the evening, but your Colorado Symphony Chorus is the real feature on Poulenc's revelrous work, Gloria, which will close out their appearances on the 2107/18 Season. For fans of choral work, this is a must-see!

You’ll hear Mozart’s fun, playful overture to The Marriage of Figaro, and one of his most eloquent piano concertos made famous by "Elvira Madigan". But the real highlight will be the Poulenc Gloria—the perfect piece to really showcase our award-winning Colorado Symphony Chorus!

Boettcher Concert Hall is located in the Denver Performing Arts Complex at 14th and Curtis Streets in the heart of downtown Denver. It's easy to find and there are two large parking garages to the east and west of Boettcher. There are often multiple performances happening at DPAC at the same time, which leads to traffic congestion and lines to get into the parking garages. Be sure to leave plenty of time to get to DPAC—we don't want you to miss any of the music!
