Associate conductor Christopher Dragon leads your Colorado Symphony in a weekend celebration of film score composers and those who influenced them. Herrmann’s ingenious use of strings conveys a “black and white sound” on his suite from Psycho, which mirrors the black and white images of Hitchcock’s haunting cinematic thriller. Ravel, who heavily influenced future generations of film composers, originally wrote Mother Goose as a piano duet but later revised and expanded the original work into an orchestrated piece. The program is capped by the legendary Danny Elfman, who composed the scores for treasured films such as Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Good Will Hunting. Brilliant soloist Sandy Cameron performs the Colorado premiere of Elfman’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, “Eleven Eleven,” a piece she helped debut in 2017.

Just Announced! Award-winning composer Danny Elfman will be in attendance for the Colorado premiere of his Concerto. He will also host both the Prelude and Talkback (an informative audience Q&A) at the Friday, May 17 performance only. Elfman has composed the scores to numerous iconic film scores across four decades, including Tim Burton’s Batman and The Nightmare Before Christmas. “Eleven Eleven” is Elfman’s first freestanding orchestral work.

The running time of this performance is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. This includes one 20-minute intermission.

Boettcher Concert Hall is at the southwest end of the Denver Performing Arts Complex (DPAC) located at 14th and Curtis Streets in downtown Denver. It's easy to find and there are two large parking garages available within walking distance: the DPAC Garage and the Colorado Convention Center Garage. Please arrive early to ensure ease of parking and an on-time arrival. With numerous other events happening at the DPAC all the time, parking fills up quickly. Late arrivals will be seated during the first available break. We strongly encourage alternate forms of transportation.
